Ana Jimenez-Moreno earned her Ph.D. in English from Notre Dame in 2017 and completed a 5+1 Postdoctoral Fellowship with the University of Notre Dame Press. She focused on acquisitions while also gaining experience in the marketing, business, and manuscript editing departments. The experience helped her earn a Mellon University Press Diversity Fellowship at the University of Georgia Press and led to her hiring as acquisitions editor at The Ohio State University Press.
"The 5+1 Fellowship Program was instrumental in launching my career in publishing.
"My time interning with the University of Notre Dame Press showed me that I could be connected to the world of books and use what I had been taught in academia. The 5+1 Fellowship Program was instrumental in launching my career in publishing."
"A career in publishing, like an academic career, depends on networking. Closely working with the director, editors, and staff in other departments in the Press gave me both quality training and connections with people outside of our institution."
"Anyone trying to look at careers that build from or relate to their scholarship will find that what prevents a smooth transition into a new field is experience. Because I worked for UND Press, I was completely immersed in how they do their craft and how that world operates, I was able to gain a definite edge when it came to applying for jobs."
